Adult fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus) surfacing near Isla Carmen in the lower Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez), Mexico. This baleen whale is uniquely asymmetrical in its coloration; the right lower jaw is usually white in color whereas the left lower jaw is black. Also note the grey chevron pattern on the back of this animal, another defining color pattern. The fin whale believed to be the second largest animal to have ever lived on planet Earth.
