sponge, Techtitethya crypta, formerly known as Cryptotethya crypta and Tethya crypta, species of demosponge belonging to the family Tethyidae, it is a large shallow water sponge found in the Caribbean Sea and the nucleosides spongothymidine and spongouridine where isolated from this sponge provided the basis for anti-viral and anti-cancer drugs. It contains arabinoside sugar.
