Scuba diver inspecting a net full of farmed fish (gilt-head bream, scientific name: Sparus aurata) in the Mediterranean Sea. The net is a part of an organic fish farming in the Mediterranean Sea located in front of Cannes, France, Europe. An open water fish farm is a set of floating nets with buoys, open to the surface and which are fixed on the bottom with a system of anchors and moorings to withstand storms and weather. Each net is called a cage and it contains either a particular species of fish or a generation of fish with the same size. The farm in Cannes has 2 sites cages. The first one, very close to the coast allows the food to be supplied with pipes from the land base. The fish at the second site must be fed every day by hand.
