a large head of lobe coral, Porites lobata, in Honaunau Bay, aka Two Step, is dead, eroded, and covered with algae; small patches of cauliflower coral, Pocillopora meandrina, that had started to colonize the dead bommie have also died; South Kona, Hawaii Island ( the Big Island ) Hawaii, USA ( Central Pacific ); greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide contribute to coral death through both ocean warming ( climate change ) and ocean acidification
